One of Africa’s most endangered mammals, an encounter with a pack of wild dogs is a truly unique sight to behold – and one few will have the privilege to experience. Designed for travelers with a keen interest in wildlife conservation, our 8 day Wild Dog Safari in Zimbabwe puts you in the heart of the action, inviting you to leave a positive legacy in Africa. Starting in Victoria Falls, you will have the opportunity to explore one of the Seven Natural Wonders of the World by helicopter and foot. Your safari continues in Hwange National Park, one of Africa’s last strongholds for the elusive wild dog. Here you will gain unique insight into what is being done to save this rare species.
Your African Wild Dog Safari starts on arrival at Victoria Falls International Airport. A Ker & Downey® Africa representative will welcome you and accompany you to Stanley & Livingstone Boutique Hotel – an exclusive luxury lodge located within Victoria Falls Private Game Reserve. During your stay, you will have the opportunity to discover one of the Seven Natural Wonders of the World, Victoria Falls, on a scenic helicopter flight over the Falls and a guided tour of Victoria Falls. End off your adventurous days with a gentle sunset cruise on the Zambezi River complete with gourmet finger snacks, a refreshing drink and close up encounters of hippo, crocodile, bird species and elephants along the riverbank.
Located in a private reserve a mere 15 minutes drive from Victoria Falls, Stanley and Livingstone Boutique Hotel features 16 spacious suites each complete with a living area, private patio and en-suite bathrooms. Guests can also enjoy the main lodge’s swimming pool, gym and spa.
Your time in Victoria Falls will be jam-packed with exhilarating experiences, from a scenic 12/13 minute helicopter flight over the Falls to sunset cruises on the Zambezi river in search of hippo, crocodile, and elephant. You will also enjoy a guided tour of the renowned Victoria Falls.
After a delicious breakfast overlooking Victoria Falls Private Game Reserve, your guide will meet you and transfer you to Victoria Falls airport for your scenic light aircraft flight to Hwange National Park. Touch down on the Hwange airstrip where a lodge representative will welcome you and accompany you to Verney’s Camp. Set within a 10,000 ha private concession, Verny’s Camp offers guests an exclusive safari experience in the heart of Zimbabwe’s flagship reserve. Discover this wildlife-rich destination on guided nature walks, twice-daily game drives and spot-lit night drives in search of wild dog. A highlight of your stay will be the half-day excursion to the Painted Dog Conservation Centre – an educational experience that sheds light on these rare animals and the strategies the organisation is using to save the species. The centre is also home to a rehabilitation centre, sanctuary and laboratory. You will also have the opportunity to visit the local school and village where you can gain insight into their culture and day-to-day life.
Set in a private concession in Hwange National Park, the intimate Verney’s Camp features 10 eco-luxury tents overlooking an active waterhole. The main area features a large wooden deck under canvas, plunge pool, indoor and outdoor dining areas, a fire pit and plenty of cosy seating areas.
Your time at Verney’s camp can be enjoyed on guided nature walks, twice-daily game drives and spotlit night drives in search of Africa’s elusive wild dog. You will also have the opportunity to visit the nearby Painted Dog Conservation Centre to gain insight into the work being done to save the species.
Day eight marks the final day of your Wild Dog Conservation Safari. After breakfast, you will be transferred to Hwange airstrip for your light aircraft flight back to Victoria Falls International Airport and onward journey home.
