Check-in Camp Kalahari

After arriving in Maun for the start of your Botswana & Victoria Falls Adventure, a 50-minute light aircraft flight will take you to Camp Kalahari in Makgadikgadi National Park, where your African adventure will begin. Set amongst the waving palms and acacia trees of Brown Hyaena Island, Camp Kalahari is the ideal base for discovering the charms of the desert and the Makgadikgadi Salt Pans, a landscape that’s inescapably mesmerising. Day two – three

quad bike safari

Makgadikgadi

Quad biking safaris

After a delicious breakfast, served family-style at the long table, the activities begin. On offer are quad biking safaris across the pans and intimate interactions with a meerkat family. After a blissful lunch on the pans, you’ll have time to relax at the camp. There’s a thatched swimming pool, providing the perfect place for a refreshing dip on a hot afternoon, which also happens to be a popular spot for passing elephants to have a drink. And between January and April, 50,000 zebra and wildebeest migrate through the area. For those who wish, the day can come to an end with a sleepout on the pans.

On your second full day at Camp Kalahari it’s time to venture out into the vast and surreal salt pans. A horse safari provides an exhilarating feeling of freedom as you canter through this desolate yet arresting landscape, while game drives will take you closer to encounters with the fascinating wildlife of the area. A lunch under shade on the pans is followed by leisure time at camp, more time at leisure and dinner around the fire.

Day four – five

charter plane

Transfer to Khwai Private Concession

Check-in Sable Alley

Day four sees you head off on a 70-minute flight to your second destination, Sable Alley in the Khwai Private Concession, and into the extraordinary wilderness area of the Okavango Delta. Located on the banks of a lily-covered lagoon, home to hippo, elephant, and buffalo, Sable Alley is a magnet for big game. The 600-square foot tents are stylish and enormous, and come with indoor and outdoor showers. Soak up uninterrupted views of the wildlife-rich lagoon, or take a seat on the veranda for world-class game viewing without leaving camp. The communal area offers guests a chance to relax with a Gin & Tonic in the lounge, around the outdoor firepit, in the swimming pool, or on the deck.

Your first morning in the Okavango Delta offers you an enthralling choice of activities. You can track wild dogs, Africa’s most successful hunters, enjoy the serenity of a mokoro ride or boat cruise while marvelling at wildlife, or go on a 4×4 game drive in search of the Big 5. Lunch will follow, as will sunset drinks, and after dinner there’s a night drive to search for animals who prefer to prowl under the cover of the night.

Day six – seven

Transfer to Chobe National Park

Check-in Ngoma Safari Lodge

A 45-minute flight from Sable Alley sees you land in Kasane, the gateway to the iconic Chobe National Park, home to more elephants than anywhere else on earth. You’ll spend two nights here at the boutique Ngoma Safari Lodge. The views alone at the lodge are worth coming for, a complete panorama of the game-heavy Chobe River and its floodplain. The lodge has just eight luxurious private suites, each with their own private plunge pool, so you’re guaranteed to enjoy a feeling of exclusivity. After a superb dinner with views over a floodlit waterhole frequented by elephants, zebra, and antelope, you can explore the area in search of the abundant local wildlife on a night drive.

Another delicious breakfast sets you up for a busy day. The first activity is one of Africa’s bucketlist experiences, a cruise on the Chobe River. In the dry season, thousands of elephants descend on the river and cross it using their trunks as snorkels. The wildlife sightings on the banks of the abundant Chobe River are like nowhere else in Africa. Next up is a full-day game drive in the Chobe National Park where big cats such as lions and leopards are often seen. Finally, if guides are available, a walking safari can be arranged to learn more about the smaller aspects of the African wilderness and encounter wildlife on foot.
